+----------------+ | A PIECE OF ART | +----------------+ This is a nice demo that I recorded on Hell Gate Server. The demo is basically an introduction to HOOK SLIDES. I think before me no other player had thought of using hook like this. I also use a lot of sling shots during the demo. By sling shot I mean hooking somewhere on the wall and letting go before you get drawn the complete distance. Doing that you have some nice flights. Just one thing: It may look like I used a wallhack or so in at least one situation and how did I manage to bind this smile ";-)" anyway?? I can assure you that it was all clean!! And if you watch the demo very closely, you may be able to find out how I did it. A little luck was also involved :P Plus you don't know how many attempts I needed until it finally looked like this. If you don't believe me, I won't be surprised. Because when I recorded it, I thought: "Wow, NOBODY will believe this!!" And after all: This is called A PIECE OF ART, and it really is. +------------+ | BFG SLIDES | +------------+ The idea came to me when I discovered servers featuring SOD mod. SOD servers are Excessive servers which have been configured in such a way that you can use the knockback of the BFG not only for usual BFG jumps, but also to fly through the map. Doing this you avoid corners and just slide right through as if there was a straight line. I'll try to give you an example of this. This is supposed to be a part of some map seen from above: ________ -> | ___ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |_______ | | |_______ | | | X A player that would stand by the arrow and wanted to go to the X, would usually have to go forward, then right, left and right again. But with BFG slides you are able to get from arrow to X within less than a second, almost instantly like a teleport! ________ -> | _\_ | \| | \ | |\ | | \ | | \ | | \| | \ | |\ | |_\_____ | \ | |_______ \ | | \ | X Of course you don't go through the walls like it seems, you slide along the walls. But it makes no difference, it happens so fast you can imagine there is a straight line. +-------------+ | HOOK SLIDES | +-------------+ Ok, enough said to BFG slides, now hook slides. I wanted to translate the slides to hook so that you would be able to fly through the map even faster than with usual hook techniques. The main thought is the same as with BFG slides: you want to avoid the corners. The only way to build up the speed, that's needed to allow slides like this I can think of, is what I call a hook jump. Hook jump works like this: Hook a little bit ahead of you but don't let it drag you the whole way! Let go off of the hook before you get drawn the complete distance! Then JUMP. If you do it right, you will fly forward with an amazing speed. Ok, once you managed the hook jump you just need to find the right places in the map where you can use the slides. To me dm8 is ideally suited for hook slides, so I recorded the demo on this one. Enjoy!
